This will be the first international tournament that Pakistan is going to host after the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009. Yes, I am talking about the Champions Trophy 2025 which Pakistan has reserved the hosting rights and it is starting from 21 February 2025. 8 teams will participate in this tournament, including the host and defending champion Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, India, England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. The final decision of BCCI regarding indian cricket team arrival in Pakistan has still not been made. It should be remembered that the Indian team did not come to Pakistan in the current year's Asia Cup and only 4 matches of the Asia Cup were played in Pakistan.
Rumors are also circulating that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan due to security concerns, then the rights to the Champions Trophy may be withdrawn from the defending champion Pakistan, but the PCB had a firm stand that recently, famous teams have successfully visited Pakistan in which they were given the best security, that's why no team has this justification anymore.
Pakistan has named its three cities to host, which include Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar and these locations have also been approved by the ICC. The city of Lahore has been selected for the final. Earlier, Pakistan jointly hosted the 1996 World Cup with its two neighbours India and Sri Lanka.
In the year 2016, the ICC decided that the 2017 Champions Trophy will be the last ICC Champions Trophy event, which was won by Pakistan after defeating its arch-rivals India.
In 2021, the ICC withdrew its decision and decided to restart the event in 2021. From 1988 to 2017, 7 Champions Trophy events have been held. The title was won twice by Australia and South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Pakistan have won one each respectively. The 2002 title was jointly won by India and Sri Lanka.
